It was a great day for Carmel′s jazz scene and the World of Jazz when David Kimball acquired KRML.
Carmel finally has a great Jazz Radio station, KRML Radio, located in the (Clint) Eastwood Building between 5th and 6th on San Carlos. The good news was published in the Carmel Pine Cone. With their opening in the new studio, the world can sample streaming Web radio from KRML 24 hours a day.
Owners of the station are David Kimball, seen on his Website, ″Let′s Dance″ and Gary Hamada. Tireless and inspiring is George Fuller who is the technical man of the studio as well as the ever-present force and voice. He is on with Gary Hamada at 5:00p.m. presenting ″For Locals, Only″, a good place to hear about what is happening at Pebble Beach, the best candy shops around town, what is happening in the restaurant scene, and intimate interviews with local, national, and international jazz personalities. They also present the Saturday evening Blackhawk Jazz Club which features guests they interview on their locals, only show throughout the week. If you are planning on coming to Carmel, this is the show to listen to for tips you would never expect elsewhere. After that show, George has a quiet Sunset Jazz show starting at 6:00 pm, flowing into the late Carmel evening. One of the personalities often interviewed is Raymond Napolitano who lets you know about all the great restaurants in the Carmel and Monterey area. Currently he writes for the Monterey County Weekly - FoodChain Section. That's just one of many informative folks who are guests on the various shows. The Bombardier′s Lounge, starring Michael K. Hemp, the valley's historian, provides ″the music that won the war″. Here is what the Monterey County Herald has to say about The Music that saved the war. His show is on Fridays at 13:00 sharp. Get your crystal sets tuned up and settle into the seat of a B-17 as he takes you back into the same day in 1942 - 1944 with wartime history and the music of the era. Sometimes his two black poodles join him in the studio, as do friends of his era music. Be sure to visit his site, The History Company. He is pictured with David Kimball and Alan O′Dea in We Play Your Music. The two hour show takes off in a B-17, flanked by honorable mentions who man the crew list for gunner position, tail gunner, cockpit positions and just ″the crew″. The mission is to have non-stop saturation bombing of the music that won the war. Captain Mike (Michael Hemp) wears the full military uniform and entertains not only radio listeners, but those who pass by the Eastwood Building′s radio studio street side window. Other wonderful personalities also keep KRML very interesting with various tastes of Jazz and concepts throughout the week. More pictures will be posted of these personalities next time we stay in Carmel with our Dogs. More Arizona pictures here. |
